About the PPGEA
The Postgraduate Program in Agricultural Engineering (PPGEA) of the Federal University of Ceará has areas of concentration in Irrigation and Drainage, Management and Conservation of Drainage Basins in the Semiarid and Agricultural Systems Engineering at Masters and Ph.D. levels.
The Master’s program was started in 1975, based on Federal University of Ceará’s Agricultural Engineering Department. During this period, more than 200 Masters candidates in Irrigation and Drainage were graduated with support from CNPq, CAPES, FUNCAP, and many other research funding agencies (FINEP, BNB, IADB, Ministry of Agriculture, Ministry of Environment, among others).
Most of the Masters graduates work in the management of water resources, irrigation management in public and private areas, teaching and research in several parts of the country, especially in the State of Ceará, as verified in the DATA SURVEY OF 30 YEARS OF THE PROGRAM. In addition, important Brazilian public state institutions (CENTECs, EMATERCE, COGERH, SECRETARY OF WATER RESOURCES) and Federals (DNOCS, CODEVASF, EMBRAPA, UNIVERSITIES, AGRICULTURAL SCHOOLS) received a contribution from the program on academic training of their technical-scientific staff.
In recent years the program has undergone a deep renewal in our teaching staff. University graduates from Brazil (ESALQ, UNICAMP and UNESP) and abroad (Tennessee, California and Arizona). The process of formation and renovation of the teaching staff led to the emergence of new research lines related to agriculture in the northeastern semiarid region.
The PhD was accredited by CAPES in the last triennial evaluation (2007), and obtained concept 5 (scale from 1 to 7), concept considered as National Excellence.
