Irrigation and Drainage
The strategic importance that irrigated agriculture represents for Brazilian Northeast is historically recognized, especially when analyzed from point of view of the agribusiness (small, medium and large).
However, the efficient use of water depends on the development of Irrigation and Drainage Science, especially under the peculiar conditions of the semiarid. Therefore, this area of concentration aims at the training of human resources and the achievement of research results applicable to the regional conditions, with a view to the proper management of irrigated agriculture, the attainment of profitable crops, associated with the prevention of environmental degradation and the increase in efficiency in the use of water resources.
